About

A seaside artisan boutique in Cayucos, California

Artistry By the Sea sits at 146 N Ocean Ave B, a two-minute walk from the sand in Cayucos. We are a small shop with a simple rule: nearly everything on our shelves is made by an independent maker, and we can tell you who.

That means handmade jewelry set with genuine sea glass, turquoise, opalized wood, labradorite and kyanite. Wheel-thrown pottery from small studios. Luxe cashmere and silk dyed with plants rather than chemicals. Handloom linen, alpaca, Turkish cotton, hand-sewn leather. Cast pewter sea life for the kitchen table. And our own By the Sea Alchemy line of botanical mists and non-toxic candles, hand-poured a few blocks from the water.

Why we do it this way

Buying handmade means accepting that things vary — a glaze pools differently, a ring runs half a size, no two pieces of sea glass are the same color. We think that is the whole point. Mass-produced goods are easy to find. Work that came out of someone's hands is not.

One of the greatest compliments we hear all the time is that our shop is full of unusual things, things you don't see in every other shop, and that's just how we like it!

We also try to be careful about materials: recycled silver where we can get it, sustainably harvested palo santo, only natural fiber textiles, hypoallergenic jewelry, and no toxic ingredients or synthetic fragrance in anything we pour ourselves.

Come see us

The shop is open every day, 10–5. Everything on this site is also on the shelves in Cayucos, and we are happy to send extra photos of any one-of-a-kind piece before you decide.

The jewelry, and the maker behind it

A large part of the jewelry in the shop is Silver Coast Designs, Meagan's studio line. Her signature technique is electroforming — metal grown atom by atom directly onto a real object in a plating bath, so a fern, a pine cone, a feather, an oyster shell or a butterfly is preserved permanently inside pure copper or fine silver. The rest is torch and hammer work: flame-sculpted mushrooms, hand-formed cuffs, organic nugget rings in recycled sterling.

Because each piece is built around one particular stone or one particular found object, most of what you see exists exactly once. When it sells, there isn't another.

Micah and Meagan Gittins owners of Artistry By the Sea

Meet the shopkeepers

Meagan and Micah Gittins have spent nearly 23 years building a life together around creativity, adventure, and a shared love of beautiful places. Their journey has taken them from Idaho to Europe and, eventually, to the California coast, where they found a place that felt like home in the little seaside town of Cayucos.

Making things has always been part of their life together. Meagan began creating jewelry while living along the coast of Portugal, inspired by the natural beauty around her, and today her work is rooted in the textures, colors, and quiet beauty of the ocean and the natural world. Micah brings that same hands-on spirit to his craft, creating candles in small batches with thoughtfully chosen, clean ingredients.

What they create is an extension of the life they love: simple, intentional, connected to nature, and filled with things that feel good to live with. They believe there is something special about handmade objects—the hands behind them, the stories they carry, and the little moments of beauty they bring to everyday life.
