Desert Blooms Large Platter

Desert Blooms is a large platter from Clay & Mortar, made in praise of desert flora. The name points at the thing itself: flowers that come up out of ground offering them almost nothing, and come up anyway.

Clay & Mortar describe the piece as a celebration of nature's ability to flourish in even the harshest landscapes, and that is a fair description of what a desert bloom actually is. Resilience is the whole subject.

It is a large platter, which means it does two jobs. It carries food when there are people in the house, and the rest of the time it can sit out on its own and be looked at. Not many things in a kitchen do both.

This is one to see in person if you can. Photographs flatten surface, and a platter is mostly surface. It is in the shop in Cayucos.
